Three Principles Of Great Leadership

Over the course of a 30-year military career, Rear Admiral Paul Becker, USN (RET.) served organizations that staffed a range of enthusiastic overachievers to emotionally flat average performers. Faced with countless discussions as an Admiral, Becker embraces his military experience as teachable moments to zero-in on the true principles of leadership, characterized by trust and loyalty.

Becker, now a success expert and inspirational speaker, often wondered, “What’s the difference between mediocre and magnificent individuals and teams?” He determined through his own experience, that principles of leadership begin with three key elements: teamwork, tone, tenacity.

  1. Teamwork:  Great teams build great relationships, both within and beyond their organization.  The goal of relationships isn’t quantity, but rather quality. With relationships come trust, and the by-product of trust is loyalty. In essence, great teamwork begins with great teams.
  2. Tone:  Tone is a synonym for attitude or culture.  As an example, great leaders set a positive tone for the organization by always delivering on their promises, praise others’ value and contributions to the organization, and genuinely care for and take actions to ensure others’ well being.
  3. Tenacity:  Tenacity is more than endurance. It’s perseverance with a purpose.  A tenacious person or organization knows what their desired end state looks like. Above all, they view all obstacles as temporary and never accept failure as a final outcome. Consequently, tenacious individuals and teams are occasionally disappointed, but they’re never deterred from victory.

Together, these leadership principles develop into a cohesive message that builds an invaluable framework of trust and character. To improve the quality of an organization, group, or individual the Becker T3Group translates these principals into strengths that promote  performance, productivity, and profit. Learn how principles of leadership can improve the bottom line.
